Galway Senator, Fidelma Healy Eames welcomes the announcement of €22,752,424 towards road infrastructure in Galway City and County

Galway West Senator, Fidelma Healy Eames has today (Monday) welcomed the announcement of €22,752,424 towards road maintenance and improvements in Galway City and County.

* €2,120,169 – Galway City

Galway West Senator, Fidelma Healy Eames has today (Monday) welcomed the announcement of €22,752,424 towards road maintenance and improvements in Galway City and County.

“I wish to welcome the news today, that €22,752,424 has been allocated to both Galway City and Galway County for the maintenance and improvements of our roads”

“Of this amount, €2,120,169 has been allocated to Galway City. From this amount an allocation of €400,000 will be spent on improvements for Wolfe Tone Bridge, along with a further € 87,900 being allocated to key projects.

“These projects include:

1. Dr Mannix Road/Devon Gardens realignment & Zebra Crossing. Completion of 2011 scheme- €18,000
2. Grattan Road – €28,000
3. High Road, Briarhill – €10,600
4. Merlin Park junction, Dublin Road, Galway – €3,300
5. Old Seamus Quirke Road, Zebra Crossing near Ashe Road. Completion of 2011 scheme – €28,000”

“In addition, I would like to further welcome the announcement of €20,632,255 for Galway County. This allocation includes:

1) €250,000 for the Oranhill – Rinville Road
2) €158,000 for the design stage of the Claregalway Relief Road
3) €111,000 for the Galway City Western Route
4) €300,000 for the Connemara Access Route (Bearna – Ros an Mhill)

“This grant will see much needed improvements in our roads and will ensure that roads are maintained for the upcoming year. In addition, it will also see the start of essential projects aimed at reducing traffic black spots in the County, such as the Claregalway Relief Road and the Oranhill/ Rinville Rd.

“I am very grateful to the Minister for responding to my representations on many of these projects.”
