*Jobs will be worth over €20 million to local economy over three years
Galway West Senator, Fidelma Healy Eames, has today (Thursday) welcomed the announcement of 130 new jobs at Hewlett Packard (HP) in Galway. There will be 75 high end research and development (R&D) roles as well as 65 technical and support roles created in HP’s Galway facility.
“Today’s announcement is great news for Galway. It represents another ringing endorsement of the City as a hub for high tech enterprises. At a time when the economy is facing considerable challenges, Galway’s ability to attract top quality jobs is remarkable.
“We still face an uphill struggle in tackling unemployment in our community but today’s announcement is good news for local people and the local economy. These jobs will be worth over €20 million to the local economy over three years.
“We have a fantastic pool of talent, thanks to our excellent third level institutions and have deliberately positioned ourselves as a centre for high tech jobs. It is very gratifying to see this strategy bear fruition.
“Recruitment for these jobs will begin immediately. The jobs to be created are the result of HP’s consistent and continued achievement in HP’s Galway facility which has gained a reputation for consistently high standards.
“I would like to congratulate the IDA for their persistence and hard work in helping to bring these jobs to Galway. Galway continues to punch above its weight when it comes to attracting jobs and investment in the high tech sector.”
