I entered politics because I want to make a contribution to improving the society in which I live. While my primary commitment is to representing and responding to the needs of my constituents in Galway West, I am also concerned about the overall direction of our country and the well being of its citizens.

Education and Enterprise are areas of particular interest to me. In Seanad Eireann I am delighted to be Fine Gael’s Education spokesperson. I believe Education is the single, most important means by which society can be improved in every way. Over 20 years experience in education has shown me that investment in quality education is crucial to the empowerment of our people, the route out of poverty and the means through which we are enabled to earn a livelihood – thus providing, a sound basis upon which to build enterprise, business, jobs, the lifeblood of our economy.

I believe it’s time for a new politics in Ireland, a can-do style of politics that provides inspirational leadership and is responsive to the needs of all our citizens. New vision and new energy is needed. It’s time to confront the causes of the daunting economic challenges we now face and the consequences of the economic shrinkage. I am committed to generating solutions to this crisis. And, I believe that Fine Gael is the party best suited to creating a more energetic, honest, accountable and optimistic government for the Irish people. I want to be part of this. My goal is to be a TD for Galway West in the next government. Your support will help me achieve this.
